Passports
U.S. citizens are required to present a valid U.S. passport when traveling to The Bahamas, as well as proof of anticipated departure from The Bahamas.
Currency
The official currency is the Bahamian Dollar (BSD). US dollars are widely accepted and interchangeable with the Bahamian Dollar. You’ll want to travel with both cash and a major credit card.
Tipping
Tipping is expected if a local helps you with anything. That includes helping you with your bags, giving you directions, or simply taking a picture.
Communication
WhatsApp is the preferred and sometimes only way of communication on the island. WhatsApp utilizes WiFi, so you will need WiFi in order to chat. It is free of charge, you just need to be connected to WiFi to use it!
Electrical Voltage
The electrical voltage in the Bahamas is 120V, and the standard plug type is Type A and B. The standard voltage (120 V) is the same as in the United States of America, so you do not need to bring a converter if you are coming from the United States.
Driving
Driving is on the left side of the road – English style! Seatbelts are required by law. It is illegal to drive while speaking on your cell phone. Bring your ear-piece!
Weather
The Bahamas has a tropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. It can experience hurricanes between June and November.
